Privacy Policy

Your relationship is personal. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it between you and your partner — and nobody else.

What we collect

When you use Elumi, we may collect the following information:

Name and email address — provided when you sign in via Firebase Auth or Apple Sign In.
Daily ritual answers — your written responses to each day's prompt.
Partner reactions — emoji or text reactions your partner leaves on your answers.
Photo memories — images you choose to upload to your shared memory space.
Voice notes, letters and mood entries — what you record or write in the app.
Talk markers and check-ins — when you mark an answer “Let's talk about this”: a preset reply or a time you pick, never typed text. The optional “How did it go?” check-in afterwards is visible only to you.
Memorable dates — dates you and your partner agree to keep.
Referral codes — when your couple invites another couple, so the invitation can be credited.
Feedback you send us — your message, plus a name and email address only if you choose to add them.
Device push token — used exclusively to deliver notifications to your device. It's stored with the app's build number, so we only send notifications your version of the app can display.
Crash reports — technical details about a crash (device model, system version, app version and where in the app it happened), collected through Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix it. They never contain your answers, letters or memories.
Whisper intentions (only if you enable Whispers) — short paraphrased summaries derived from your own ritual answers, used to send you gentle reminders. Details are in the Whispers section below.

What we never do

We will never sell your personal data. We will never share your data with advertisers. We never use your data to train AI models — ours or anyone else's. Your ritual answers, memories, and relationship details are private — visible only to you and your partner.

Third-party services

We use a small number of trusted services to operate the app:

Firebase (Google) — authentication, cloud storage, analytics, and crash reporting (Crashlytics). Google's privacy policy applies to data processed through Firebase.
RevenueCat — subscription management. RevenueCat receives only the information required to verify and manage your App Store subscription.
Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — for delivering notifications to your device. Apple does not receive the content of your notifications.
Anthropic (Claude API) — powers Elumi's optional AI features: relationship recaps, insights, recap films, personalized prompts, letter-writing suggestions, and Whispers. When you use these features, the relevant content — such as your ritual answers, memory captions, and letter drafts — is sent to Anthropic in the United States to generate the result. We do not send your name or email, and your content is never used to train Anthropic's models. Under Anthropic's standard API terms, submitted content may be retained by Anthropic for up to 30 days for safety and abuse monitoring, after which it is deleted; content that Anthropic's safety systems flag may be retained for longer. You can turn AI features on or off at any time in the app's settings; some features (such as Whispers) require you to opt in first.
PostHog — privacy-respecting product analytics, used to understand how the app is used in aggregate. Analytics are off by default and require your explicit opt-in, which you can withdraw at any time in the app's settings. We do not send PostHog the contents of your ritual answers, memories, or messages. Usage data is processed on PostHog's servers in the United States, under EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
GoDaddy — hosts the elumi.space website. When you visit the website (not the app), GoDaddy's hosting may collect basic technical and traffic data, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view, to operate and monitor the service. GoDaddy's privacy policy applies to that data. None of your Elumi content — answers, memories or letters — is stored on or sent to the website.

Whispers

Whispers is an optional feature that reads your own ritual answers and, once in a while, sends you a paraphrased reminder shortly before the moment it would apply — a Sunday morning, an evening at home, a birthday coming up. Because it involves an AI service reading personal writing, we handle it with extra care.

You opt in. Whispers is off by default. After you have used Elumi for about two weeks, we may show a one-time introduction that lets you turn it on. If you tap "Not for me", we never ask again. You can turn Whispers off in the app's settings at any time.

What we send to Anthropic. When Whispers is on, we send only your own single ritual answer and the prompt it was answering. We do not send your partner's answers, your name, your email, your account identifiers, your other ritual answers, your memories, letters, or mood entries. Under Anthropic's standard API terms, the answer text may be retained by Anthropic for up to 30 days for safety and abuse monitoring, after which it is deleted; it is not used to train Anthropic's models.

What we store in your account. If the AI finds something reminder-worthy, we store a short paraphrased summary of that intention in your account — never a verbatim copy of what you wrote. You can see every stored intention in Settings → Whispers → History and delete any of them at any time.

What we never do. We never extract whispers from your partner's answers. We never send whispers to your partner unless you explicitly enable "Also send to my partner" in the app's settings, and even then only paraphrased summaries — never quotes. We never use your ritual answers to train any AI model. We never sell or share this data.

Turning it off. When you turn Whispers off, we delete every intention Whispers extracted from your answers within 24 hours. Your ritual answers themselves stay exactly as they are — this only removes what Whispers derived from them.

Data retention

Your data is stored for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account — via Settings → Delete account — we erase your profile, your private reflections and check-ins, mood entries, solo entries, the feedback you sent us and any data-export archives straight away. Content you shared with your partner, such as daily answers, memories and letters, is permanently deleted within 30 days. This cannot be undone. Subscription and purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat are kept where the law requires it, for example for tax and accounting.

Some data has its own, shorter limits: feedback you send us is deleted 12 months after you send it; data-export archives are deleted 48 hours after they're created; and if you turn off Whispers without deleting your account, we delete all intentions Whispers extracted from your answers within 24 hours (see the Whispers section above).

Your rights

You may request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it at any time by contacting us. If you are located in the European Union or a jurisdiction with applicable data protection laws, you also have the right to object to processing or lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Children

Elumi is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 17.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you through the app or via email before the changes take effect.
